EN ISO 7010 is the new European Norm for safety signs. The norm is expected to be endorsed by all EU-members in January 2013. “All new safety signs, compliant with the new norm, are now available”, says Dominique Roosen, European Product Compliance Manager at Brady Corporation.
New Safety Signs
The purpose of the new ISO 7010 norm is to introduce a globally recognised range of pictograms, signage shapes and colours to create a global safety language promoting instant recognition across countries and cultures.
Signs concerning accident prevention, fire protection, health hazard information and emergency evacuation have been reviewed and adapted. As a consequence, suppliers updated their range of safety signs. “We are committed to ensure our customers always have identification solutions compliant with the latest in laws and regulations”, says Dominique Roosen from Brady Corporation, a global supplier of safety and facility identification.
European and National norm?
The European Norm ISO 7010 was to be endorsed by all EU-member states by January 2013 at the latest. When writing this article, countries who have already accepted EN ISO 7010 as a national norm include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Norway and Switzerland, both non-EU countries, also accepted ISO 7010 as a national norm.
CEN/Cenelec, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation, approved ISO 7010 as the new norm, meaning national standards organisations of CEN/Cenelec’s members are bound to implement the standard. These countries include Croatia, Czech Republic, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey.
Always visible
“At Brady Corporation, we want to add what we can to the underlying goal of increased safety in the new ISO norm”, says Dominique Roosen. “In our laboratories and during testing, we make sure our safety signs stay visible, even in harsh industrial environments. Brady develops materials, coatings and ink that will stand against all chemicals and solvents, extreme temperatures or prolonged UV-exposure.”
