Baumüller offers three new safety modules for the b maXX 5000 modular converter generation with safety integrity level (SIL) 3 and performance level (PL) e. The SAF-001, SAF-002 and SAF-003 modules can, if required, be connected to the b maXX power circuits. This supplementary safety system enables up to eleven safety functions, even when used with a simple resolver as the sensor system. The b maXX 5000er series therefore meets the requirements of EN ISO 13849 in accordance with the Machinery Directive.

Baumüller is providing machinery manufacturers and operators with three new safety modules for the b maXX 5000 power circuits in light of the safety specifications applicable within the EU. The SAF-001, SAF-002 and SAF-003 modules conform to standards EN 62061 up to SIL 3 and EN ISO 13849 up to performance level e.

The optional plug-in components enable a flexible expansion of the drive controller. The SAF-001 safety module is certified by TÜV Rhineland and enables a `safe torque off` function (STO). In the event of an emergency this function cuts off power to the motor which is therefore unable to generate any rotary motion. The SAF-002 module incorporates five other functions such as safe stop (SS1 and SS2), safe operating stop (SOS), safety limited speed (SLS) and safe direction (SDI). The SAF-003 module comes with a total of eleven safety functions. In addition to the safe states mentioned above, it also includes, for example, safety limited acceleration (SLA), safety limited position (SLP), safety limited increment (SLI) and safe brake control (SBC). All safety functions which require travel to be measured can also be achieved without costly safety rotary transducers, with simple resolvers up to SIL 3 and PL e. Furthermore, the safety modules include eight digital safety inputs and four digital safety outputs which can be assigned to the safety functions as required.
